Brothers and sisters,
The Father of Pan-Africanism
Doctor Kwame Nkrumah
Says to all black people
All over the world:
"The secret of life is to have no fear".
Now we all have to understand that.

A Tribute to Fela Kuti

Image

For quite some time, many of our listeners have asked us to do a tribute to the great late Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, also known as Fela Kuti. We’ve never dared to tackle this idea, because Fela’s output as a composer, singer, musician and arranger is huge, and since his songs are not exactly short (often lasting over one or more sides of an album), it’s hard to do this idea justice in just two hours. But on tonight’s Midnight Soulstice, DJ Pari will dig out his favorite tunes by the Godfather of Afro-Beat, mainly focusing on the material Fela recorded between 1969 and 1980 with his group Afrika ‘70 - which we consider his prime. This is gonna be a great show, so don’t miss it. Even if you don’t know how to sing along in Nigerian pidgin or Yoruba, just sit back, relaz and enjoy some of the sickest Funk grooves you’ll ever hear.

- Fela Ransome Kuti & the Africa 70 - My lady Frustration (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti & the Afrika 70 - Gbagada Gbagada Gbogodo Gbogod (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti and the Africa 70 - You no go die … unless (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti & the Afrika 70 - Alu jon jonki jon (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti with Ginger Baker - Ye Ye De Smell (Celluloid)
- Fela Anikulapo Kuti & the Afrika 70 - J.J.D. Part 1 (Kalakuta)
- Fela Anikulapo Kuti & Africa 70 - Na Poi 75 (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti & the Afrika 70 - Fe Fe Ne Eye Fe (Kalakuta)
- Fela Ransome Kuti & the Afrika 70 - Expensive Shit (Kalakuta)
- Tony Allen with the Africa 70 - Hustler (Kalakuta)
- Tony Allen and the Afro Messengers - No Discrimination (Shanu Olu)
- Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Roy Ayers - 2,000 Blacks Got to be Free (Kalakuta)
